My name is Trina Gillis, I was born June 15 1977. The most unique thing about me is I have the most amazing twin sister in the world.

Growing up I was always a bit of a tomboy, I rode horses and was athletic. I still am very much a tomboy. I love to snow board in the winter, in the summer I love pretty much any outdoor activities, especially playing baseball and rollerblading, now living in the Cayman Islands I am hoping to learn to windsurf, kite board, and scuba dive.

I started lifting weights when I was 13. My mom bought me my first 5lb dumbbells, I remember they where white in colour. Of course I really had no idea what I was doing with them but every night I had a routine I would go through, doing dumbbell curls and whatever else I could come up with.

When I was 16 my mom bought me my first gym membership, boy was I intimidated walking into the gym for the first time. It was a tiny little gym full of mostly boys, but I was ready and willing to do whatever they told me. That was where I saw my first copy of a bodybuilding magazine and saw my first picture of Lenda Murray. I think that is where my dream of bodybuilding began.

I moved away from home to a small city about an hour from home when I was 19. I kept going to the gym but it was an off and on thing. In the summer I would stick to more outdoors things like my baseball and rollerblading, not so much the weight training.
When I was 22 I met a man named Glen Johanson. Glen became a very big part of my life for the next 7 years.

He taught me how to eat properly and got me training on a specific program.
I was introduced to an amazing lady, Bernice Fuss. Bernie took me under her wing and trained the heck out me, to put it bluntly!

Bernice taught me to put my all into every work out and never give it half. Go hard or go home! After 2 years of training hard I felt ready to enter my first bodybuilding show, the Northern Alberta’s. I placed a decent 2nd place and decided to go on to the Alberta Provincials two weeks later, I came in conditioned even better and again placed 2nd but beating out the lady I placed 2nd to at Northerns! This was just the beginning, I was hooked. The next year, 2003, I again entered the same two shows and won my class in both.

2004 was a new chapter for me. I competed in couple’s bodybuilding with Glen Johanson, which we won, but I decided to enter into my first Figure contest that year instead of bodybuilding. I felt I wasn’t and truly didn’t want to be the size I would need to be to compete at a national level in bodybuilding but I still wanted to do the training and diet so Figure competitions was my next step. I placed 2nd at my first show in 2004 and went on to place 3rd in 2005 in Canadian Nationals.

I am now, as I write this, sitting in the airport in Miami waiting to bored a plane to start a new chapter, living in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

I want to thank all my fans and especially the people who have helped make me who I am today. Thank you to Glen and Bernice for pushing me in the beginning and never giving up on me at the end.
